Consultation about the Strategy

The first step in the implementation of the Digital Education Strategy is to understand more fully the current patterns of technology use in teaching and learning, and to get a sense of the most important areas for resourcing from the perspective of academic staff and students.

The Digital Education Strategy Implementation Group consultated departments and faculties to review the Strategy document and consider collectively:

a. how digital technology is currently being used within their subject area, both by individual teaching staff and on a course or subject-wide basis, and

b. what the future use of technology within the course or subject area might be.

Teaching is understood in its broadest sense here of teaching and learning activities with prospective students right through to alumni.

Student engagement

Student input is an important component of implementing the Strategy, particularly at a local level, and there are a number of ways they can get involved. We hope that students will be provided with the opportunity to be part of the discussion of the Strategy, to contribute their ideas and be part of the implementation in their own subject area. Students have been frequent recipients of prizes for digital innovation for projects they have initiated and completed themselves - these individuals may welcome further opportunities to use their skills. Others may wish to acquire these skills through digital projects under supervision; ideal for offering as short placements and internships.


Members of the Digital Education Strategy Implementation Group and learning technologists are available to support discussions on the strategy. Options include attending meetings, providing a presentation or workshop, or advice on specific digital tools for teaching and learning. Please contact us if you would like to discuss any of these.

Priorities for development

Divisions will consider the responses from departments and faculties at their education and IT committees. They will then advise the central Education IT Board of their priorities for initiatives, which should be resourced and developed, at the Board's meeting in Hilary Term 2017.
